Bell Inc., a Sioux Falls-based independent folding-carton manufacturer, said Monday it has been recognized again for its leadership in sustainability.

Supply & Demand Chain Executive has awarded Bell its "Green Supply Chain Award." The award recognizes 21 companies of all sizes that are taking steps, through their supply chain management processes, to realize green goals.

To earn the national recognition, Bell said it documented dozens of achievements and practices and noted that "being green" isn't something that a company does overnight, but requires a clear strategy and consistent practices that become part of the culture.
"It has at least as much to do with who the company is and has been for years, not making a sudden decision to go green, and turning on the proverbial dime," said Ben Graham, Bell vice president, in a statement.

Some achievements documented in Bell's submission included that the company engineered a new facility in accordance with state-of-the-art standards for lean design, efficient workflow and with energy-use reduction materials. The company also said it switched several years ago to mostly water-based inks that are safe enough to be washed down the drain.
Bell is one of the 10 largest independently owned folding-carton companies in the nation and the world's largest supplier of paperboard envelopes.
